Sewer Line Coverage
By the time you are reading this, there is a good chance that the majority of homeowner’s insurance policies now have a coverage option called Service line Coverage or underground sewer line.
This is a new coverage in the insurance industry coming out in 2018.
The problem with this coverage is it isn’t automatically added to your insurance policy and needs to be endorsed or added on.
How much does it cost?
The cost of this coverage is minor compared to what is at risk. We are seeing insurance claims ranging from $4,000-$9,000 to fix the problem. The annual premium associated with the coverage ranges $15-$45 depending on the insurance company.
What is sewer line coverage?
Underground service line insurance coverage protects against the direct physical loss to underground utility lines that you, the homeowner, are responsible for.
These lines include but are not limited to :
- Natural Gas
- Sewer Lines
- Water Lines
This coverage will pay if the loss is caused by
- Wear and tear
- Rust, corrosion, decay, deterioration
- Collapse, not including sinkholes
- Electrical or mechanical breakdown
- Animal damage
- Root Invasion
- Other accidental damage
This coverage will pay to repair or replace the damaged utility line. It will also pay for the excavation and repair of the yard &/or driveway caused to access the damaged area.
The insurance will also extend to the Loss of Use coverage on your homeowner’s policy.
Do I need sewer line coverage?
Our job at Crowley Insurance is to educate our consumers on what coverage they need or should have so in the event of a claim they are taken care of.
This is a prime example of coverage that needs to be added to your policy if it isn’t already. The cost at risk significantly outweighs the additional premium.
Make sure you check your homeowner’s insurance declaration page to see if this coverage is added on. Most of the time the coverage limit equals $10,000.
If you can’t find it, reach out to your insurance agent to add it on. If your insurance company does not have the option to add it on or you do not have a relationship with an agent, then click the button below.
